The Tzotzil-speaking town of San Andrés Larráinzar has one of the oldest and most stable weaving traditions of the Mayan community in the Chiapas Highlands.

Because of the cold weather, traditional costumes in Larrainzar are made of large coats and thick skirts made of wool making sheep essential for the community. Here, sheep will never be mistreated; far from that, they are truly taken care of. Shepherding is carried out by Tzotzil women, who name, guard and honor their livestock. And twice a year they shear their cattle themselves.
